The art of distraction

Anya is not particularly concerned with her personal hygiene. She does not like it when we clean her face or hands after she eats and often tries to escape during diaper changes. Lucky for me, Anya is easily distracted (as are most babies, I bet), and I exploit that whenever I can. Yesterday after a rather messy banana I needed to clean her face, and she was not having it. It didn’t help that her nose was runny and I needed to deal with that as well. She was batting my hands away and turning her head every time I got close (while screeching, of course), so I handed her the lid to a tub of cottage cheese, and at once she was fascinated. I was able to get her face and hands cleaned up while she examined and tried to eat the lid, and even after I was finished, she still wanted to play with it. Ah, the simple life of babies.

I keep the remote to Rory’s CD player on the changing table. Daisy wants to play with remotes so badly that she will even stay still for diaper changes as long as she can hold it!
