Day Care

Anya started going to day care this week. She went for an hour yesterday and two hours today. So far, it’s been a little rough on both of us, but more so on her. Both days she cried when I left. When I called to check in on her yesterday, the teacher told me that she had cried for a while, but they eventually got her interested in some toys and she calmed down. Today, though, she wouldn’t let any of the staff put her down or she screamed. She did let them put her in the feeding chair, and she actually ate half of the baby food bananas I sent, as well as some of the table foods. When I came to pick her up, she was still eating lunch, and though her eyes were red, she wasn’t crying and seemed happy. However, as soon as she saw me, she burst into tears and it took a few minutes for her to calm down.  After that, she was all smiles, waving and saying “Bye bye” to everyone.

I feel so sad and guilty that she’s so upset while she’s there.  They actually asked me if she’d ever been around other babies before, since she seemed so overwhelmed!  She can be pretty slow to warm up to new experiences and environments, but usually within a half hour or so she’s ready to explore.  This seems pretty extreme for her, but then again, she’s never been in a situation like this, away from Mommy and Daddy with people she doesn’t know.  I hope she starts feeling more comfortable there soon.

I remember “hiding” in the garage when we first left Abigail with a babysitter and she screamed for 30 minutes. I couldn’t really leave until she stopped.

Anya will calm down when she realizes it’s safe and Mommy always does come back. I hope that’s soon.
