Forgot to mention…

At Anya’s 15 month well check last week, the nurse weighed her at 21 lbs, 12 oz and measured her at 31 inches. I don’t know how she determined her weight exactly since Anya struggled so much and the numbers on the scale ranged from 20 1/2 lbs to 22 1/2 lbs, but I’ll trust her judgment. I do think Anya’s actual height is probably closer to 30 1/2 inches, as I had measured, since Anya happily lay still on the paper for me, but desperately tried to escape the nurse. The first time she measured Anya, the nurse got 33 inches, and she knew that was wrong!

The doctor said Anya is healthy and looks fabulous. We had been concerned that Anya has been so picky with food, but he reassured us that at this age, finicky eating habits are extremely normal and we should not worry. This particular doctor is very big on making sure that his patients are eating a vegetable and a fruit at every meal. He said that if Anya is rejecting most finger food vegetables, by all means let her keep eating baby food veggies. That surprised me, since I thought the common advice was that after 1, children should move away from baby food, but I guess what’s important is that she keep those foods in her diet. I suppose the fact that she is perfectly capable of feeding herself with a spoon helps.

We just had our 15 month check-up too. Braiden is in a no veggies or fruit phase too, but he will eat pureed fruit… so that’s what I’ve been giving him. He’s ok with veggies as long as they are mixed in with other things. But he definitely isn’t getting a vegetable and a fruit with every meal. Something to improve on…
Anya is such a riot! I’m sure that scene with Elmo was just hilarious. So cool of you to record so much of the funny and not-so-funny everyday things too – it’s inspired me to try to do the same!

The food issues are so frustrating, aren’t they? I try not to get upset when Anya only wants to eat cheese for lunch or something like that, but it’s hard not to worry. Aside from finger food veggies, Anya’s been rejecting pretty much all meat, and since we don’t give her meat purees, we’re out of luck in that department.

The Elmo scene was very funny, thanks! I try to record the little moments and not just the milestones so that I’ll be able to remember them when I’m old and senile 🙂 You keep me pretty inspired yourself. I’ve really got to take more photos!
