Everything’s coming up roseola

Well, the results are in, and this time Anya officially has roseola. We suspected that she was about break into a rash last night, and sure enough this morning it was all over her stomach, back, arms, neck, and face. I hadn’t realized how bad it was, even though I checked her when she first woke up this morning. However, she was vigorously scratching the same spot on her scalp that she had been rubbing last night and she told us, “Hurt…hair,” so we decided to call the doctor. The nurse I spoke to said given the fever she had over the weekend, we needed to bring her in to be checked. When I took off her PJs to get her dressed for her appointment, I could see just how extensive the rash was this time.

We’re not sure what the deal is with her itchy scalp, since there doesn’t seem to be anything there, but she has a follow-up appointment on Thursday to re-check her rash (and her ears, since one was a little red). If it’s still bothering her then, we’ll have the doctor look at it again. She’s been rather grumpy and prone to tantrums for the last few days (especially with me), but hopefully that will improve as she gets better…my sanity depends on it!

[…] Sierra had a pretty substantial fever from Thursday night until Sunday morning or so, with no other notable symptoms other than being cranky. I had mentioned to a friend that I wouldn’t be surprised if she ended up having roseola, and lo and behold, the rash showed up this morning. She still clearly did not feel well today – a total Jekyll and Hyde case, switching from somewhat happy to angry tears with almost no notice. Poor baby. She ended up going to sleep before 7, so hopefully she won’t be up at 3 am (not that that would be any different from the last few weeks, unfortunately, but at least she usually goes back to sleep). Oh, and although the roseola rash isn’t supposed to itch, she’s been scratching at her head all day, which, oddly enough, was the same reaction Anya had when she had roseola. […]
